Come Plastic Free Food Shopping with me

In today’s video I take you plastic free food shopping with me and show it can be simple, affordable and delicious to do so. I always take the kids food shopping with me but I felt juggling a camera, buggy and two kids under 4 might be pushing it but normally, they’d be right there with me. Hope you enjoy the video….

The thing I’ve struggle with from the start is how much more it costs. My local bulk store – which bills themselves as a discount store – is actually often up to FOUR times more expensive per gram. Pasta, rice, beans… all things that are easy to get plastic-free, but so much more espensive. I haven’t found a solution yet. So far I’ve just been buying the biggest packages I can find (so it’s at least less plastic).

There are quite a few further suggestions I cd make re reducing plastic use, and associated issues, if you’re interested.
Cleaning fluids of all sorts jump to mind. Condiments. Unrecyclable plastics marked with a triangle.
I am no expert nor an eco apostle, just a bloke who hates waste that he can’t avoid.
Let me know if you’d like to hear some of the stuff I’m thinking about and you can blog it wider than I could.
Given the recent ‘new’ awareness of plastic in the seas, another parliamentary vote on recyclable packaging cd be worth agitating for, if you could find enough focused support. (Probably the best/only way to have any real impact on the problem.)
Nice looking kids, by the way. They are fine ‘inventions’, children, aren’t they! 🙂
