DIY BABY BATH WASH & SHAMPOO

Fed up with baby washes that are either full of toxins OR cost the earth, and now with two boys to bath at the end of the day, I’ve decided to try my hand at making some bath washes for Jack and Sonny. I’ve been playing around with a few recipes, plus thanks to your amazing suggestions on Instagram, I’ve come up with a super duper easy one that seems to do the trick. There are a few ingredients you need to buy but once you have them, it works out so much cheaper in the long run than always having to buy shop bought washes with the added bonus of knowing exactly what you’re putting on your little ones’ skin. Experiment with different essential oils (I love lavender and find this so calming for them (and me!) before bedtime but perhaps if I were bathing them in the morning (say, there’d just been a poo-explosion…), I might want something more energising such as peppermint).

Oh and please do your best not to get this in your little one’s eyes – whilst Dr Bronner’s are extremely mild and safe for babies, it is not a tear-free product. Bear in mind that most tear-free formulations on the market use some kind of synthetic numbing agent – so be happy that your wash is free of any such chemical additives but do watch out for it going in their eyes. I simply place my hand firmly over their eyes which seems to work OK.

You will need:

-1/4 cup or 7 tablespoons of baby unscented pure castille liquid soap – this online store seems to be the cheapest place to buy it

-1-2 tablespoons of an oil of your choice (and don’t add too much oil otherwise your little one will be slipping all over the bath, and if you are using this as a shampoo, go easy on the oil…) I use Sweet Almond Oil but olive oil from the kitchen will work too!

-1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel

-A few drops of your favourite essential oil

-1 cup of water

Mix everything together and there you have it. Bath time just became a whole lot more satisfying, economical and chemical -free.

Have you tried making your own products? What do you currently use to wash your little ones?

Does this need a preservative? How long will it last?

Hello! Can I ask what type of aloe Vera gel did you use? Did you just scrape it off the plant or buy some? Thanks
