There are businesses that plod on as normal, adding to the plastic crap that fills our everyday lives. Then there are businesses like Who Gives A Crap who actively do good in the world and, crucially, are still looking for ways to improve (keep reading for more on that).
If you don’t already know them, Who Gives A Crap sell eco-friendly toilet paper made from 100% recycled paper or bamboo. It blows my mind that most toilet paper is still made from cutting down virgin trees – indeed, 27,000 trees are cut down EVERY SINGLE DAY just to make toilet paper. For something so momentary and, let’s be honest, insignificant as toilet paper? It just doesn’t make sense. Trees are for hugging and loving, not for wiping our bums! At the same time, .. On top of their strong eco credentials, Who Gives A Crap donates 50% of their profits to help build toilets in developing countries. Globally, 2.3 billion people lack access to a toilet – that’s 1 in 3 people – and with often devastating consequences. So far,Who Gives A Crap has donated over $1.8M AUS to their charity partners working in sanitation throughout the developing world.
But that’s not all! Who Gives A Crap is currently embarking on a whole new journey. Like so many of us, the company are also cutting down on the single use plastic in their supply chain.. Whilst their toilet paper itself has always been plastic free and wrapped in paper (a brilliant addition for anyone looking to reduce plastic in their bathroom), they still want to do more.
Inspired by Plastic Free July, they are working hard to eliminate all of the tiny plastics from their packaging and supply chain, for example tape, strapping (the tape used to secure multi-box orders) and even that little bit of plastic at the top of their tissue boxes. The entire company from Logistics to Production are putting other projects on hold, pulling together to find solutions and coming up with alternatives to wasteful plastic. Take note, other businesses around the world! They’ve come a really long way, and it’s really exciting. Please be patient if your delivery arrives with plastic tape, it takes time for the changes to roll out!
As far as the product itself goes, I could not be more impressed. I’m a huge fan of bulk buying so the fact that Who Gives A Crap delivers (for free, in more cases) in 48 rolls at a time really appeals to me (not to mention how it keeps costs down.) You can also buy multiple boxes and save even more. They also make quite a statement arriving to your front door – it’ll certainly break the ice between you and your postman!
As mentioned, the rolls are wrapped in 100% recycled paper which is also 100% compostable – though we tend to keep most of the wraps for upcycling into cards or for the kids to get creative and draw on. As for the actual paper, it’s super soft and strong (it’s 3-ply) and the rolls themselves are extra long for added value.
Any other questions, please comment below and we’ll get back to you. Otherwise, happy wiping 🙂
